Products description
Porsche Cup goes brushless!
The RCK brushless “Flat-Six Turbo” motor. The new drive for the Porsche class of the RCK small series!
This motor is a relatively simple and straightforward motor. It fits the concept of the RCK small series - it is inexpensive and does not have an excessive amount of power.
The motor will be used as a standard motor in the Porsche class from summer 2024.
Compared to the previous brushed motor, the new “machine” has less speed and more torque. With the engine change (summer 2024) from the Flat Six Brushed engine to the Flat Six Turbo, we have retained the reduction ratio.
With the same reduction ratio, the cars get out of corners better and achieve approximately the same top speed.
The motor comes ready to connect with 4.0mm gold plugs - color-coded unmistakably (matching the RCK controller 1)
Technical data:
_ Size 540
3.175mm motor shaft
_ Sensorless brushless design
Scope of delivery:
- Motor, without further accessories
Why the switch from brushed to brushless motors?
The brushed motors were inexpensive and therefore a great solution for the Porsche Cup.
Switching to brushless eliminates the need to run in, re-oil each battery and regularly replace the motors.
The basic dispersion and also the differences due to different motor conditions are largely eliminated.
The end result is a more level playing field combined with less effort. This disadvantage of brushed motors is eliminated, especially for beginners who lack experience.
The purchase of the brushless combo is initially more expensive - however, it is sufficient to buy one motor. The motors run largely wear-free. In the long term, the brushless drive is easy on the wallet.
A rough timetable:
A) Availability of the new brushless combo in May 2024
B) Transition phase in which brushless & brushed is permitted until the Supercup at the end of July 2024 in Meckenheim. Nevertheless, we ask the fast guys in particular to set a good example and switch to brushless.
C) Tolerance phase in which the brushed drive is still tolerated for the kiddies and beginners - even if only the brushless motor is still in the regulations. We don't want to offend anyone and simply let the results on the track speak for themselves. The toleration phase ends with the World Championship in Augsburg in March 2025.
For all drivers of the Porsche Cup in the KleinSerie - what may be done to the engine, what may not be done to the engine and what should be done? Tips and tricks!
1. a brushless motor does not need to be run in. The motor has the power it should have from the very first second - without any technical tricks.
2. the bearings are oiled at the factory. As the motor has ball bearings, this issue is much less sensitive than with the previous brushed motor. A drop of oil (recommendation: MXLR MAX-01-001) from the outside on both bearings every now and then does no harm.
3. the motor normally remains relatively manageable in terms of temperature due to the short reduction ratio. A fan is not necessary. However, if you prefer, you can of course use a fan.
4. the engine is supplied with 4mm gold plugs as standard. This plug connection is mandatory in the Porsche Cup and must NOT be changed. Background: The cables that look out of the motor are directly the winding wire. Very difficult to solder - with a high risk of breaking something.
5. the screws of the motor housing are sealed by us. The motor must NOT be opened. An engine with broken seals is no longer permitted in the Porsche Cup. (So be careful with aggressive cleaners!)
6. following point 5 it is not allowed to change the bearings of the engine. (regardless of this, it is technically not possible with this engine due to the closed construction)
7. on the rear bearing plate there is a sticker for CE marking, which is mandatory for us. If you wish, you can remove this sticker - please note the information on the cleaner in point 5.
8) EVERY motor is tested by us before delivery. The motors are within a pleasantly tight window. We therefore know exactly what the initial values of the motors are. We would like to point out that we reserve the right to withdraw “suspicious” motors from the race - against replacement, of course.
FAQ:
Question: How many turns does the motor have?
Answer: As this is a 4-pole motor, the number of windings is not comparable with an “otherwise usual” 2-pole brushless motor.
Question: What is the speed / kV rate of the motor?
Answer: We deliberately do not provide any information on this. The motor is used as a standard motor in our own racing series and is the same for everyone - completely independent of a manufacturer's specified value.
